Minimal consciousness

Abstract

Communication is the fundamental element to establish the nurse-patient therapeutic relationship, which allows us to establish objectives, evaluate care and provide feedback on the needs identified in the day-to-day work of our professional work, in the specific field of care for neurological patients. Being able to communicate with them, it is a challenge for the multidisciplinary team, which brings us closer to non-verbal communication.
This communication is not assessed in the scales used, where only verbal communication is assessed, with a bias towards aphasic people and those in transition stages; with consistent and inconsistent reactions.
Through personal experience in caring for patients in the brain damage unit, a state of minimal consciousness, I have made this instrument proposal to assess the response obtained during daily interaction with nonverbal communication, to establish individual objectives and goals in his  rehabilitation.
