Introduction: During the SARS-COV2 pandemic, prone maneuvers were common in intensive care units (ICUs). The exponential increase in Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) meant a greater need for pronation in seriously ill patients and, consequently, the need to implement protocolized guidelines encouraged by the need to adapt to the rapid pace of change in patient care and improvement. of the procedure.
Objective: To analyze the perception of nursing professionals about how they perceive performing the prone maneuver after the implementation of the new protocols, after the pandemic.
Methodology: Qualitative-phenomenological study carried out between July and September 2023 in an ICU, through intentional sampling, of a tertiary hospital. Data collected through focus groups of 5 participants (segmented by level of experience); They were subjected to a thematic-reflexive analysis (according to the Braun & Clarke strategy) after digital recording, transcription and subsequent coding.
Results: Emerging themes were: 1) the importance of an experienced team; 2) the complexity of the technique and aftercare; 3) greater safety in practice after the pandemic and 4) discomfort among professionals due to the lack of clinical practice.
Conclusions: The perceptions of professionals after the pandemic allow us to respond to the needs required by the personnel involved on the front line and learn from the mistakes made to improve patient safety and shorten the high learning curve of the technique.
